The following is a brief overview of the history for Eihydia. More detail exists under the other lore pages, in particular, the Lore Time Line.

The Beginning

Hundreds of creation stories have passed through the ages detailing the formation of Eihydia and its people. The story will differ greatly depending on who is telling it but it always begins the same.

“Man ensued the initial amorphous and chaotic mass.” – Ancient Philosopher

Philosophers have struggled over the centuries to piece together the fragmented spiritual beginning to life on Eihydia with little success. Most agree that a chief Entity was mostly responsible for the creation of life and will most certainly play a role in its end. Most recent theories have associated this God-like being synonymous with nature.

“Who better to rule us than the environment in which we live?” – Isaiah Gaal, Philosopher.

The Magic Stream

The blood of this Entity is said to run through the veins of the earth. It bestows amazing gifts and abilities to all who come in contact with it. This strange substance has been known since the ancient eras as the Gaia Tributary (Magic Stream). The substance is recognized by its intense blue color and thick texture. Meticulous evidence suggests that prolonged exposure to the Magic Stream will cause permanent side effects. Some effects include physical discoloration, deformation, petrifaction, poison, reanimation, supplementary power, loss of control, ability deficiency, loss of sensory functions, spontaneous combustion, restoration of sensory functions, vomiting, melting, death, reincarnation, explosion, and drowning.

Ancient records reveal an era in which some beings discovered they could consciously tap their energy into the Magic Stream and manipulate its power for their own end. These people became known as the Indagoians and are recognized by their vibrant blue skin from extended exposure to the Gaia Tributary. These people quickly became known as the self-proclaimed “Chosen Ones” and assigned themselves the task of guarding the natural order of the planet for thousands of years. Archaic texts show that the Indagoians believed the stream bequeathed the natural process of life unto the earth. The values of the Indagoian people have been lost over time but the tradition is still carried on by the Order of the Shield.

The Order of the Shield

The Order of the Shield was an organization created by the Indagoians to serve the natural order. Overtime the Indagoians lost the virtue once held by the Order but the tradition lived on by those still dedicated to the cause. These remaining servants to nature became known as the Mystic Knights.

Eventually the teachings went beyond the Indagoians and included other races that honed their bodies and minds to join the convention held by the Order. Near the end of the Age of Faith there was approximately one Mystic Knight to every city.

The Age of the Eclipse brought destruction to the Order of the Shield after the first and last battle at Daeloth. The result was catastrophic. The city was completely destroyed and every living being within was purged. Daeloth was once the homeland for the Order’s operations and with its fall fell the greatest defense of Eihydia. By the last few years of the Age of the Eclipse the number of Mystic Knights had dropped significantly and the council was never reformed. Today there are some that continue the teachings of the Order but they are extremely rare and powerful beings.

The Last Rites of the Righteous

By the end of the Age of Faith the great Varconian prophet Valistar Pelobeza prepared, what she referred to as, the Last Rites of the Righteous. The confusing passages of her prophecy detail in cryptic accounts an apocalyptic event that would set the stage for the end of the world.

“Shadow creeps toward the great four beings and envelop their days in forever night. We shall walk with those who went before us and those that went before us shall be the cause. Flames lick at Saint Raphieon’s feet and the hearts of the just will burn with ice. One child under one blade will see the end of times.”– Valistar Pelobeze, an excerpt from the Last Rites of the Righteous.

Records left during the Age of the Eclipse are fragmented and unreliable at best. What Historians do know about the period is that a great darkness enveloped the lands and enormous beasts burrowed from fires deep within the earth. These demons flooded over Eihydia like a great wave and obliterated the righteous. During this period the Order of the Shield was destroyed and many cities crumbled. The four great nations came together under one unknown leader and pushed the demon onto the west coast of the Kai’vivorian Territory. It was there that during the climax of the final great battle between man and beast that a great tidal wave rose over the battlefield and vanquished both demon and man beneath its cold and vicious waters. Six months later light would again shine upon the earth and the healing process would begin. The Age of the Eclipse had begun.

The Age of Recovery

With all four great nations and their surrounding countries crippled and the Order of the Shield destroyed by the Last Rites of the Righteous there was little hope of defense against global threats that could emerge. It was at this time the radical Indagoians would seize power in Sansoo-Kai’vivorian and begin a mass genocide of those that were not pure Indagoian blood. Popular theory had suggested that the transpired events during the Age of the Eclipse were in part due to an odd mixture of Indagoian blood and another compatible creature of equal power. The result was catastrophic and the supposed being lost control of his or her power and created demonic creatures from the Gaia Tributary.

Among Scientists and Magicians this theory was held to be an implausible yet viable possibility. Many extremists went to great lengths to create a similar being through methods of interracial breeding. The Kai’vivorian Empire quickly went to work destroying these “abominations” and the madmen that created them.

It was during this time that Raine Oka’Windia de’Kai’Vivorian, an Indagoian Mage, copulated with a woman of a lost Elven race that possessed amazing psychic abilities. After the birth, Raine took the child and hid him away in a monastery where he would be taught educated in Philosophy, Politics, Theology, and Magic. The child was named Sesi-kai (Sesi), which translates to bearer of light. Sesi’s tutelage was executed under Sarion Riesuts, a great educator in the arcane.

Sesi-kai quickly excelled in his abilities and exhibited amazing power that matched and excelled Sarion’s. Sarion had quickly realized the full potential of his pupil had not yet been reached and pushed his abilities to the extreme. The result was miraculous. The child that Sarion had raised and instructed as his own son was the most powerful creature to walk. From Sarion’s journals Historians have discovered that Sesi-kai was able to consciously control the Gaia Tributary and alter its structure to whatever he desired. His only limitation seemed to be his imagination. Sarion also discovered that Sesi-kai was able to control and manipulate the minds of others.

Realizing the potential for Sesi-kai to become the most destructive force since the Age of the Eclipse he pushed for Sesi-kai to focus on his studies and practice the teachings of great Philosophers who believed patience and tranquility were the foundations of self-control.

When Sesi-kai reached the age of sixteen his father returned and attempted to take Sesi-kai from the monastery. The intent was to use his son as a weapon against the Kai’vivorian Empire and eventually conquer the world. Sarion Riesuts had loved Sesi-kai as his own and would not allow such a plan to come between him and his student. In a long battle over the future of Sesi-kai, Raine Oka’Windia emerged victorious by slaying Sarion Riesuts in his own halls. Legend has it that hurt and outraged at the death of his mentor, Sesi-kai emerged from the shadows and mutilated his father by tearing the skin from his body inch by inch just by thinking about it.

With Sesi’s beloved Sarion Riesuts dead, Sesi-kai went into the dark and cold world alone and absent of his teachings.

The Tempest Season

Ten more years would pass before Sesi-kai would lead a war against Eihydia and bring the four nations to their knees with his massive armies. It was during this time that the Tempest, a sword of legendary power, would be officially witnessed and recorded by hundreds as the unnamed wielder led a resistance into the heart of Sesi-kai’s Empire located on the Ama’rane continent.

During the war Sesi-kai would come face to face with the wielder of the Tempest and in a surprising feat of defiance of myth, kill the legendary hero. It is said that Sesi-kai stripped the power from the Tempest and cast its rusted husk from his tower into the battle below. The wielder of the blade’s skin was used from that day forth as the flag for the Sesian Empire.

Sesi-kai would go on to rule Eihydia for over a thousand years before finally disappearing. There are several myths as to what occurred, some being that his prolonged and direct exposure into the Gaia Tributary led to his demise. Others say it was love that killed his black heart. Some say a new hero was chosen and slew Sesi-kai down with a revived Tempest. Without the leadership of Sesi-kai rebel forces quickly overthrew his Empire. The remains can still be seen today in the Valley of Mist.

The Tempest

The ultimate weapon believed to have been forged by a lost Deity near the dawn of civilization. Translations of ancient texts suggest that the Tempest has appeared only several times during a period that covers roughly three hundred thousand years.

Those that were rumored to have wielded it have been recorded only as doing so during a decade of great despair and then, after the fact, never heard from again.

Scholars, powerful magicians, and great Philosophers have debated the odd and brief appearances of this weapon. It was established that it must have been forged from materials now unknown to any. Its writings had been made in legends far before the arrival of the new and organized religions and thus only left a true master craftsman or a lost Deity to have forged it.

Ancient depictions of the Tempest reveal an intriguing structure that forgers today cannot duplicate. It was designed to be incredibly light and deadly. Other depictions reveal it to be surrounded by a misty figure, which once represented those spiritually possessed. This has brought new evidence to the table suggesting that perhaps the Tempest is an animate object that can adapt to and possess its user, thus utilizing his or her skills to their maximum amount, regardless of the individual’s prior training.

Finally, a last note on the Tempest reveals a mysterious writing along its blade in a language studied but no longer used after the Age of Recovery. It is believed that the blade was not forged with these words on it but they were later added by its owner.

The original scripture reads: “Ahnka-vawin’te’ouna’.”
Loose translation: “Only two become one.”

The Beginning of New Bonds

After the fall of the Sesian Empire the four nations worked together diligently to rebuild their ravaged civilization. As a common bond they developed a trade city on the continent of Ama’rane named Tralisia. One individual was chosen as a representative to each nation to govern over Tralisia and its people. With the creation of this new trade city the Empires quickly regained their economic and military holds over the world. Smaller countries and independently governed cities are excluded from the Tralisian bond. Today Tralisia stands as a newfound city of trade for the Empires but serves more as a symbol of their unification.

The Final Intermediate Period

Several hundred years have passed since the infamous regime of Sesi-kai. His control, avarice, and authority resulted in the devastation of various empires and innumerable lives. Recently, within the previous century, Eihydia has almost absolutely recovered economically and culturally. To commemorate this event of renewal and long-lasting peace the four great nations established Tralisia, a commerce town positioned approximately equal distance between the empire’s capitals.

To ensure that Tralisia does not become too financially and politically independent from the rest of the nations, a council of seven aristocratic delegates (one from each kingdom and one from Tralisia) has been established to manage industry and law. Lately though, the procedures of the Tralisia government have raised concern regarding the motives of the government officials. If they are influenced by the strength, wealth, and potential that Tralisia has to offer then another Tempest Season may be closer than everyone suspects.
