Ranger Release Date

Post by dayrinni » Sun Sep 25, 2016 9:10 am

Hello,

The Ranger implementation is going well.

The target release date for the Ranger is sometime in October, most likely closer to November. One piece of the puzzle is introducing a new weapon type and having to make a bunch of items for the shops. This'll take a bit of extra time.

I'll keep this thread updated as implementation continues.

Thanks.

Hello!

Progress is being made.

I am going to begin the final spec now, which is the 2nd of the 3. The class will only release with 2 of the 3 specs because we realize Rangers are very popular. We want to make sure we leave enough space for players to contribute feedback and their ideas to the class. Leaving out 1 spec does just this: opens enough space for players to give ideas and then for us to act on it. If we implemented 3 specs from the get go, we would have to wait for the master specs and we know they are a ways off.

There are a few other skills that need to be done, such as tracking, and that is waiting on Actinate. We'll probably release without tracking since it is a more utility type skill and really doesn't give too much impactful gameplay WHEN compared to say bows, crossbows and fire arms. Also, the Pathfinder will have a temporary tracking ability put in. This will be removed when real tracking comes out.

But, yes, the Ranger is coming along nicely and I am pleased with how well it is progressing so far.

The release date has not changed.

Thanks.

Hello!

Here is an example of fletching some arrows:
fletch broadhead
You go about fletching some platinum broadhead arrows...
A few moments later, you managed to fletch 20 arrows!
You put them in a newly created quiver, a quiver of platinum broadhead arrows.
(This quiver has keywords of: quiver platinumbroadhead arrow)
[ 0 Second Delay ]

I may have to change the way quivers work in the game - it is now possible to literally carry hundreds of items on your person. I may have to make a change depending on how badly the game gets flooded with items(arrows). I may need to make it so quivers have ammos, and each time you use it, the game creates an arrow on demand. Both have their ups and downs. Though, I did some profiling and I don't think this on demand way will cause any performance issues and save a lot of memory in the long run.

Hello!

Progress is going. This has a larger than usual component - new weapon types (bows and crossbows, along with quivers, arrows and bolts). Right now, I'm aiming for sometime at the end of October for release. We had a hurricane and that made me lose the entire weekend.

I shall keep you all updated on the progress of the class!

Thanks.

Hello!

I am doing some play testing to make sure things work in a reasonable fashion. There are some aspects that WILL require tweaking after more data is gathered from the play testers. Like with other classes, I can't test everything, but do handle the basic/obvious stuff. So I leave a lot of the testing up to you all to root out all the bugs :)

Additionally, some additions to the world will be made, namely, some new ores (tin and copper), and then a way to get ingots (tin, copper and bronze). These are needed for the purchasing of arrows (only).

Finally, it is very likely tracking won't be released right away. I am waiting for Actinate to send me the details on that so I can code it up!

Thanks.

Hello!

I have much of the Ranger done. There is a few items I am waiting Actinate to take care of but they aren't major.

Additionally, I am doing some play testing here. I think it'll be ready sometime this weekend, or early next week.

I'll make a follow up post as usual when we are closer.

Thanks.
