Area Save/Loading Conversion
Area Save/Loading Conversion
Hello!
So, we typically have a bunch of things going on in the game to ensure that we can give you steady update and content. For example, right now we are:
1. Updating Dobson's items.
2. Working on a new area.
3. Working on the Earth spells.
4. Designing Weather.
5. Designing the Blood Shaman.
6. Secret Project.
During our planning and so on, we have decided that we need to do the conversion of the area data from the old way of saving/loading to the new way (players currently are on this and except for a few instances, this is amazing!). So this is what I'll be working on for hopefully no more than 3 weeks, and if all goes well, for 2 weeks code wise!
In the mean time, you can expect progress to move forward full speed ahead on the items listed above! Blood Shaman implementation is slated for around March and release in April.
Thanks!

Re: Area Save/Loading Conversion
Hello!
So this is going well. I believe I have completed the majority of the conversion and I have to verify, do some stuff on the side and whatnot. Hopefully this weekend or early next week we can get this rolling.
Then, we'll commence work on Blood Shamans.
Thanks!

Re: Area Save/Loading Conversion
Hello!
I have managed to load the areas into the game and I have logged in and it *seems* ok, lol. I now have to perform the lovely task of verifying all of the data! But all the numbers seem to add up so this is a very promising start here!

Re: Area Save/Loading Conversion
Hello!
I am finishing up the verification here. Found some issues and fixed em. I have to do a few more.
How am I doing verification? The game displays staff only information of everything in the game. So I wrote a command to dump this information to a file. It comes out to about 19 MB. I do this for the old and new areas. Then, I run this through a comparison program and scan for errors. This is faster than what I did for the players. What I did for the players was actually write a unit testing program to do it all automatically for me. That was really needed because of the importance of the data (your players). Additionally, the scale of that was MUCH lower and easier to write (the code). For the areas, it is a much larger problem (lots of code to write - would take a long time to do). Additionally, the importance of the areas is less so since it is no ones character (obviously, content is very important!!!!).
There is the update and some extra background information.
Thanks.

Hello!
We'll be doing the migration tomorrow during the evening!
The game will be locked during this time.
Thank you.
